Methods
This study was designed to look at the potential of a plant-based diet to treat congestive heart failure. Three patients consumed a defined plant-based diet for an average of 79 days.
Key Findings
Follow-up cardiac MRI images showed 92% increase in ejection fraction, 62% increase in stroke volume, and 17% increase in cardiac output. All patients reported less shortness of breath, chest pain, and fatigue. Authors conclude that a defined plant-based diet may contribute to the reversal of heart abnormalities seen with congestive heart failure.
