The aim of this study was to "investigate the associations of dietary protein and protein sources with risk of disease death in the prospective, population-based Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study."
Results showed that higher protein intake from meat was associated with increased mortality. Other protein sources, such as plant sources, was not associated with mortality. A higher ratio of animal protein to plant protein was also associated with increased mortality risk. Plant protein sources in this study included nuts and legumes.
