Methods

The aim of this study was to "investigate the associations of dietary protein and protein sources with risk of disease death in the prospective, population-based Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study."

Key Findings

Key Findings: Results showed that higher protein intake from meat was associated with increased mortality. Other protein sources, such as plant sources, was not associated with mortality. A higher ratio of animal protein to plant protein was also associated with increased mortality risk. Plant protein sources in this study included nuts and legumes.
