Methods

The aim of this study was to look at the relationship between dairy consumption and premature death from cardiovascular disease or cancer. Close to 300,000 participants were used to test this.

Key Findings

Key Findings: In general, more research is needed. The results showed a higher premature death risk with whole milk consumption. Although total dairy intake did not seem to have adverse effects on mortality, there was a possible higher cancer mortality risk with total dairy consumption. However, when dairy foods were substituted for nuts, legumes, or whole grains, mortality risk was decreased. Although these results need to be studied further, replacing dairy with other foods like nuts may be protective.
