Methods
This review examined the evidence surrounding nut consumption and cancer protection.
Key Findings
Multiple studies have found associations between nut consumption and reduced risk of cancer mortality. A previous study, for example, showed a protective effect for colorectal cancer with peanut consumption among women in Taiwan. A strong hypothesis that may explain the protection from nuts is that several components act in a synergistic way to block cancer cell proliferation. Some of these compounds may also act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents.
