In this study, authors examined how various dietary patterns change the gut microbiome to affect risk for cardiometabolic diseases.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Both plant-based and Mediterranean diets alter the gut microbiome to provide cardiovascular benefits. A plant-based diet can increase good bacteria, such as Prevotella taxa, and decrease harmful metabolites like TMA. The Mediterranean diet seems to reduce circulating choline metabolites like TMAO, which in turn reduces cardiovascular disease risk.
