Methods

In this review, authors looked at the potential of various foods and diets to impact the structure and function of the gut microbiome.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Several food components were identified as ones that promote a healthy diversity of microorganisms in the gut, including plant proteins, polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals. In addition, the Mediterranean diet, which includes nuts, was shown to improve gut diversity. More research is needed in this area, however, to examine more of the health effects of various foods on the microbiome.
