This paper analyzed various studies with the aim of assessing the relationship between consumption of various food groups and markers for diseases.
Increased intake of nuts, legumes, and whole grains was more effective at improving metabolic health than any other food groups. The authors suggest that more randomized controlled trials in this area are needed.
