Methods

The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between nut intake (peanuts, other nuts, and peanut butter) and cholecystectomy (removal of gallbladder due to gallstones). The study utilized 80,718 women from the Nurses' Health Study who were followed for 20 years.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Participants who consumed peanuts or peanut butter 5 times per week or more had a significantly lower risk (19% and 15% lower risk, respectively) of cholecystecomy than those who rarely consumed them.
