This review article highlighted some of the main components in peanuts that have been shown to positively impact health.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Peanuts are rich in phytosterols and flavonoids, including proanthocyanidins. They also contain other polyphenols like stilbenes (resveratrol) and phenolic acids (p-coumaric acid). Flavonoids in peanuts have been identifed in the skins and shells, and p-coumaric acid has been identified in peanut kernels as well as in defatted peanut flour. Phytosterols have been shown to lower cholesterol by blocking its absorption in the diet. Resveratrol is protective against cancer and cardiovascular disease. Other flavonoids exhibit antioxidant properties, which protect cells from damage.
