In this meta-analysis, Harvard researchers analyzed 36 feeding studies in 1803 participants to look at the relationship between red meat consumption and cardiovascular disease risk. They also examined whether or not that relationship can be modified by substituting plant-based protein sources (including nuts) instead of red meat.
Results showed that substituting red meat with high-quality plant protein sources (including nuts) led to more favorable changes in blood lipids and lipoproteins.
