In this commentary, authors looked at the relationship between plant-based protein intake and kidney function in diabetic patients.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Plant-based diets are generally protective against Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and the progression of it. In contrast, intake of animal protein, particularly red meat and processed foods, has harmful effects on the kidneys. In fact, a theoretical model showed that replacing 3% of energy from animal by vegetabe protein is associated with significant reduction of CKD prevalence.
