Methods

This article reviewed the current evidence surrounding how plant foods affect the aging process. Specifically, researchers looked at telomere length, which is a DNA marker of aging: shorter telemores are associated with shorter life expectancy, while longer telomeres are associated with longer life expectancy.

Key Findings

The review showed that in several observational studies, consumption of plant foods, including nuts and grains, had a positive effect on telomere length, supporting the view that plant foods promote health and longevity.
