Methods
Researchers in Korea studied the effects of treating mice with p-coumaric acid for acetaminophen-induced liver damage. P-coumaric acid is one of the main polyphenols found in peanuts. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol.
Key Findings
Results showed that p-coumaric acid was able to prevent liver damage in mice who were treated with it in the environment of an acetaminophen overdose. The authors concluded that this antioxidant protects against acetaminophen-induced liver damage, and could be used therapeutically.
