Methods

In this study, the investigator examined 120,852 men and women over 20 years to discover the relationship between intake of red/processed meats and other protein sources on mortality.

Key Findings

Key Findings: Processed meat intake was associated with increased mortality, particularly for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Nut intake was inversely associated with mortality. The author concluded that replacing processed meat with a combination of poultry, eggs, fish, pulses, nuts, and low-fat dairy may lower mortality risks.
