In this study, the investigator examined 120,852 men and women over 20 years to discover the relationship between intake of red/processed meats and other protein sources on mortality.

Key Findings

Processed meat intake was associated with increased mortality, particularly for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Nut intake was inversely associated with mortality. The author concluded that replacing processed meat with a combination of poultry, eggs, fish, pulses, nuts, and low-fat dairy may lower mortality risks.
