Resveratrol an activator of SIRT1, restores erectile function in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Methods

In this study, authors studied 60 rats for 8 weeks and induced diabetes in 48 of them. They then treated some of the diabetic rats with resveratrol, a polyphenol found in peanuts. The objective was to examine the effects of resveratrol on erectile function. Erectile dysfunction is a common complication in diabetic men, affecting 35-75% of patients.

Key Findings: Results showed that diabetic rats that ingested resveratrol experienced restored erectile function compared with the diabetic rats who did not receive resveratrol.
