Methods
Authors investigated the effects of Coenzyme Q10 and Selenium supplementation on cardiovascular disease mortality 12 years after the study had been conducted. Participants received 200 mg/day of CoQ10 and 200 mcg/day of Selenium for 4 years. Twelve years later, the relationship between this supplementation and cardiovascular mortality was measured.
Key Findings
Results showed a long term protection from cardiovascular disease by supplementing both selenium and coenzyme Q10 in the diet. Even twelve years after the study, participants had a 40% reduced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Peanuts contain both of these antioxidants that work together to reduce inflammation and increase heart health.
