Evidence suggests that the bioactive compounds, polyphenols, and fibers in plant foods may positively affect the gut microbiome. This review looked at the current evidence surrounding plant-based diets and the gut microbiome.

Key Findings: "Up to date knowledge suggests that a plant-based diet may be an effective way to promote a diverse ecosystem of beneficial microbes that support overall health. Nonetheless, due to the complexity and inter-individual differences, further research is required to fully characterize the interactions between diet, the microbiome, and health outcomes."
