Methods
This article compares the effects of a traditionally recommended diet for chronic kidney disease (CKD) with an alternate plant-based diet.
Key Findings
A vegetarian diet neutralizes acidosis in CKD and its consequences. Also, because phosphorus absorption is lower in plant foods than in animal foods, this can reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality. Authors explain that a plant-based diet in kidney disease may reduce inflammation, complications, mortality, and may slow the progression of CKD.
